Anyone from Marine Corps Base Hawaii?
Anyone from Marine Corps Base Hawaii? Do You like it there? How is the base, and the housing? events around base?
Hi Angie! We are currently stationed on MCB Hawaii and we love it! It is absolutely gorgeous- not like the typical military installation. There are several beaches on base that are hardly ever crowded and are as beautiful as any other place on the islands. The housing is nice although there are some older housing that will be completely demolished soon and replaced with new housing. New base housing is really nice and spacious. The base itself is not huge but the activities are plentiful. Depending on your situation (married, family with kids, pets, etc) you will overall have a great experience if you plan ahead and keep a positive attitude if things don’t quite go according to plan. The base housing wait list is super long so if you will be receiving orders soon- contact MCBH Housing asap to be placed officially on the waiting list. It took us 6 months before we were offered a place on base but we had to wait until our lease was up out in town. Housing is very expensive but if you live on base, everything is cheaper (not cheap- just cheaper than off base). The convenience of living on base is great especially since they only allowed one vehicle to be transported and paid by the government. This doesn’t mean you can’t bring two. It just means you have to pay for the 2nd vehicle which is not cheap. I heard through the grapevine that the military was trying to change this policy but I am not sure if they have yet or not.
There is a ton of stuff to do on and off base. It’s nice to be able to hop on a plane and see other islands too for less than $100 so definitely take advantage of that. Well, I hope this answered some of your questions. Hope you enjoy it if you are coming here!
